Gerald L. Coleman is the author of the epic fantasy series The Three Gifts, which includes When Night Falls, A Plague of Shadows, and the forthcoming When Chaos Reigns. Coleman's poetry has appeared in Pluck!, The Journal of Affrilachian Arts & Culture, Drawn To Marvel: Poems From The Comic Books, Pine Mountain Sand & Gravel, Black Bone Anthology, the 10th Anniversary Issue of Diode Poetry Journal, About Place Journal, Star*line, and This is the Honey: An Anthology of Contemporary Black Poets. His speculative fiction has appeared in The Cyberfunk Anthology, The Roaring Lion Anthology, The Urban Fantasy Anthology, the 2019 JordanCon Anthology, Dark Universe, CyberFunk! by MVMedia, the 2022 JordanCon Anthology, and Whether Change. His essays have been published in the Polish language Con-Magazine: KONwersacje, Apex Magazine 127, and the Hugo-nominated Journey Planet. Coleman has been a guest author at DragonCon, Boskone, Blacktasticon, JordanCon, Atlanta Science Fiction & Fantasy Expo, and others, and a guest poet/lecturer at Berea College, University of Kentucky, Centre College (Governor’s School), Transylvania University, Western Carolina University, UNC Charlotte, Florissant College, Kenyon College, the Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Cultural Center. He is a Scholastic National Writing Juror, a co-founder of the Affrilachian Poets, an SFWA member, a Rhysling Award Nominee, and a fellow at the Black Earth Institute. Healing Transformations How can we use our creative energy to deal with negative thoughts and difficult experiences? In this workshop, Jennifer Bondurant, LPC, Director of Randolph College’s Counseling Center, will discuss the science behind negative thinking and share how our biology can be transformed when we allow ourselves to practice and embrace positive thinking. Inspired by two works from the Maier Museum’s 112th Annual Exhibition in which the artists have physically transformed hateful words and ideas into art, we will create simple, mixed-media works to provide an opportunity to experience the healing power of transformation. Monday Meditation in the Maier Gallery Mondays from 5:15 to 6:30 pm (plan to arrive between 5:00 – 5:15 pm) Surrounded by art, the group offers an introduction to mindfulness meditation based on Buddhist teachings. Participants practice sitting meditation, mindful movement, and other methods helpful in bringing awareness to daily life. All are welcome to join, regardless of race, creed, color, belief, gender expression, etc. Free and open to the public (free will offerings are welcome). Wear comfortable, loose clothing.
